			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Two parallel SBRs have been constructed at the NEWPCC to treat centrate from the dewatering of digested solids, with the primary purpose of reducing the nitrogen load to the Red River and Lake Winnipeg. The centrate SBR facility is currently operating as intended and is reducing the nitrogen load in the centrate by over 90 percent. The operation of the centrate treatment plant has resulted in a 30 percent reduction in ammonia and a 25 percent reduction in total nitrogen load discharged to the river. The centrate plant was designed to send nitrifiers in the WAS to encourage nitrification in the mainstream plant at low SRT. To date, there is little evidence that any significant level of bioaugmentation is occurring. Additional research is underway to determine if and how bioaugmentation can be improved at the NEWPCC to provide significant benefit. Source: WEFTEC Proceedings 2009</p>
